Denmark has many natural advantages as a hub for digital infrastructure, including its mild climate, allowing for "free cooling" the majority of the year, says the CEO of Digital Realty for Denmark and the Nordics, Pernille Hoffmann.
"We are not as cold as Iceland or Norway, Sweden, Finland, but we still have quite a mild climate that allows for low-energy cooling," says Pernille. "We actually do on average eight months a year with free cooling that results in a really low PUE for us."
Hoffman also notes the "rich power supply" in Denmark and grid reliability, as well as strategic positioning as an internet hub connecting Europe and North America. Denmark also is free from most natural disasters, says Hoffmann.
Hoffmann shares her insights in the Cool Vector episode, "Denmark's Winning Formula for Sustainable Data Centers." The discussion also includes Magnus Kristinsson, CEO of atNorth and Henrik Hansen, CEO of industry advocate Danish Datacenter Industrien. Watch the full episode on Cool Vector's YouTube channel:
