Ireland's data center industry is sometimes viewed negatively by the public because of its energy needs, but disproportionate power demand is evidence of economic growth, says Garry Connolly, Founder of Digital Infrastructure Ireland.
"It just so happens that to make data, you need electricity," Connolly tells Cool Vector. "When you see a headline like, 21% of the electricity is being used for data centers. . . you think, oh that's outrageous. Actually, that's success."
Connolly shares his insights in the Cool Vector episode, "Constrained by Grid and Politics, Ireland Looks for a New Era of Data Center Growth," along with Christopher Brown, a Partner at KPMG in Ireland , Gary Watson, Country Manager and Director, Keppel (Infrastructure Division) DC REIT in Ireland, and Eugene Finn, Managing Director at CAPCON, a Dublin-based engineering company that builds water infrastructure around the world.
